Dr. Matthew C. Mai, MD is a board-certified orthopaedic surgeon specializing in comprehensive hip surgery. Dr. Mai treats musculoskeletal conditions of the hip resulting from development, injury, overuse, and arthritis. He specializes in advanced hip arthroscopy for femoroacetabular impingement (FAI) and labral tears, hip preservation, and anterior total hip arthroplasty. Dr. Mai is internationally recognized in the hip arthroscopy community and teaches hip arthroscopy courses across the country alongside other leaders in the field.
Dr. Mai earned a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry from the United States Air Force Academy and his Doctor of Medicine from the Loyola University Chicago Stritch School of Medicine. After becoming an orthopaedic surgeon, Dr. Mai served two tours of duty in Afghanistan and one in Malawi. For the last eight years of his military career, Dr. Mai was stationed at Eglin Air Force Base and Hurlburt Field. He received numerous commendations for his service to our country. During his time in the Air Force, Dr. Mai developed a passion for hip preservation and served as the tertiary referral source for hip arthroscopy to a five-state area.
